Resonances in $$^{12}{\mathrm C}$$ and $$^{24}\mathrm{Mg}$$: what do we learn from a microscopic cluster theory?

We discuss resonance properties in three-body systems, with examples on $$^{12}{\mathrm C}$$ and $$^{24}\mathrm{Mg}$$ . use a microscopic cluster model, where the generator coordinate is defined hyperspherical formalism. The nucleus described by an $$\alpha +\alpha $$ structure, whereas considered as $$^{16}\mathrm{O}+\alpha system. essentially pay attention to resonances. review various techniques which may extend variational methods consider $$0^+$$ $$2^+$$ states show that r.m.s. radius of strongly sensitive basis. This has consequences for Hoyle state ( $$0^+_2$$ ) whose been calculated or measured several works. In , we identify two resonances slightly below threshold.
